By 2030 Vietnam needs at least 100,000 digital technology businesses

The Government Office said that

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has just signed the Directive No. 01 / CT-TTg on promoting the development of digital technology enterprises in Vietnam.

Accordingly, based on many new technologies that are digital core (artificial intelligence, deep machine learning, big data, blockchains, cloud computing, internet of things ...), digital conversion creating a new development space - digital economy, digital society, e-government. In particular, digital transformation opens up a great opportunity for Vietnam to develop strongly, quickly catching up with developed countries and just beginning the digital transformation process.

Therefore, developing applications, transfer, research and development businesses, producing digital-based products, platforms, and solutions - Vietnamese digital businesses - to promote innovation. New innovation plays a very important role in realizing the opportunities and potentials that digital transformation brings when bringing digital technology into all areas of social life, to every citizen.

The directive stated that Vietnamese digital technology enterprises should take the lead and create a breakthrough in the implementation of the "Make in Vietnam" strategy with the implication that “Vietnamese enterprises strive to step by step master the technology, proactively design and manufacture products and be proactive in creating new services, solutions, and business models".

Vietnamese digital businesses will contribute to the mission of making Vietnam become an industrialized country, the Vietnamese economy will breakthrough, grow fast, sustainably and embrace the goal of making Vietnam a high-income country by 2045.

Following the model of several countries with developed economies based on digital technology businesses, by 2030, Vietnam needs at least 100,000 digital businesses to develop the digital economy and build smart cities, e-government, widespread application of digital achievements in socio-economic fields and national digital transformation.

Four types of digital businesses need to focus on development: large corporations, commercial enterprises, and services in socio-economic fields shifting their operations to digital technologies and core technology research investment. Information technology enterprises have affirmed that the brand undertakes the pioneering missions of researching, developing, mastering digital technology and being proactive in production. Entrepreneurs apply digital technology to create new products and services in socio-economic sectors and start-ups and innovators in digital technology.

The desire for a strong Vietnam, a market of nearly 100 million people and specific problems of Vietnam in the fields of agriculture, transportation, health, education, finance, natural resources, and environment ... is a favorable premise for Vietnam digital technology enterprises to grow and reach out to the world, the directive stated.

In order to achieve the goal of developing 100,000 Vietnamese digital enterprises, The Prime Minister requests ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, heads of government-attached agencies, presidents of People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities, economic groups, state corporations, and Vietnamese enterprises to focus on thoroughly implementing 12 solutions, such as preparing a National Strategy for the development of Vietnam's digital technology enterprise by 2030 and submitting it to the Prime Minister for promulgation in 2020. Moreover, it is necessary to develop a controlled test policy framework for new products, services, and business models applying digital technology in Vietnam and submit to competent authorities for promulgation in the period 2020-2021.

In addition, these agencies need to orient and support at least 5-10 digital technology enterprises in Vietnam to develop a number of national key digital products, becoming a pillar of Vietnam's digital technology enterprise ecosystem, before 2025.

Developing at least 5-10 digital technology platforms that are common to promote the application of digital technologies and promoting the development of digital products in socio-economic fields and putting them into use before 2025 is also a solution listed in the directive.
