According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien - Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vietnam, this is a very encouraging result, especially when there is growth in all markets, including such huge markets as China (up 54%), South Korea (up 46%), Russia (up 38%), Taiwan (up 21%), European markets grow by about 20% and others are growing at double-digit speed. The growth of international tourists in Vietnam in the past 10 months is the highest in the Asia-Pacific region, which is an impressive continuation of 26% growth in 2016.
According to the Global Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum 2017 (WEF), Vietnam has advantages of natural resource (ranked 34th), and cultural and tourism resources (ranked 30th). However, the competitiveness of Vietnam's tourism is only ranked 67/136, lower than Singapore (13th), Malaysia (26th), Thailand (34th), Indonesia (42th).
The biggest competitive advantage of Vietnam's tourism is its unique cultural and historical values, reflected in its cultural heritage such as Hue Ancient Capital, Hoi An Old Quarters, Thang Long Citadel,… unique daily activities, food, festivals, performing arts, customs and practices of regions; Ha Long Bay, Son Doong cave, beaches, bays, famous islands like My Khe (Da Nang), Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) ...
For this industry to be a key economic sector, sustainable tourism development is emphasized; the cultural heritage and traditional values of the nation are preserved and promoted; environment and nature are protected.
In addition, to encourage tourism development, the Government has issued Decree No. 03/2017 / ND-CP on casino business. So far there have been eight companies licensed operating in the casino business, which are mainly located inn three focused economic zones Van Don, Northern Van Phong and Phu Quoc.
