Vietnam Tobacco Corporation (Vinataba) is a state-owned enterprise established in 1985 and has operated under the model of parent-subsidiary company since January 1, 2006.
Initially, it was an enterprise with 4 cigarette factories and some tobacco raw materials factories. Nowadays, Vinataba has become one of the major State Corporations, holds the number one position in the tobacco industry and has a strong position in the food industry.
In the period 2010-2020, the Corporation always maintained its leading position in the tobacco industry. While the domestic consumption volume decreased, the output of the corporation still grew. It holds over 67% market share and leads the whole market in the mid-range products segment.
In 2020, Vinataba's cigarette output reached 4,038 million bags with a total revenue of 23,507 billion VND (equivalent to 1 billion USD). The company’s profit after tax was 1.065 billion VND and export turnover was 204 million USD.
In Vietnam, Vinataba is the largest tobacco producer and trader. This enterprise is the parent company owning 100% of capital of Saigon Tobacco Company Limited (charter capital of 2,692 billion) and Thang Long Tobacco Company Limited (charter capital of 1,590 billion), which are also among top tobacco companies in Vietnam.
British American Tobacco - Vinataba (VINA - BAT JV) is a joint venture between Vietnam National Tobacco Corporation (Vinataba) and British - American Tobacco Marketing Company (Singapore) Private Limited (BAT). It has a charter capital of 138.6 billion VND, equivalent to 6.6 million USD. Vinataba holds 51% of capital and BAT holds 49%. The joint venture is headquartered on an area of nearly 4,500 m2 in Vinh Loc Industrial Park, Binh Chanh District (HCMC) and focuses on the production of cigarettes with BAT's premium brands
The establishment of VINA - BAT JV to produce cigarettes has marked an important development in the cooperation relationship between Vinataba and BAT Group.
The company was formerly known as Trung Hue Company, which was established in 1929. Through many changes, in 2005, Saigon Tobacco Factory under Vietnam National Tobacco Corporation was officially transformed into Saigon Tobacco One Member Limited Liability Company.
The company is considered as one of the leading companies in Vietnam’s tobacco industry in terms of productivity, quality and socio-economic efficiency. In the past time, Vinataba Saigon has been implementing construction investment projects with modern scale, especially investment in modern machinery and technology to improve quality, reduce cost, diversify categories and research products that are less harmful to consumers' health.
On January 6, 1957, Thang Long Tobacco Factory was established. According to Decision No. 318/2005/QD-TTG dated December 6, 2005 of the Prime Minister, Thang Long Tobacco Factory was transformed into Thang Long Tobacco One Member Company Limited.
Thang Long Tobacco Company Limited is a member company of Vietnam National Tobacco Corporation. Over 60 years of establishment and development, Thang Long Tobacco Company Limited has become one of the biggest tobacco companies in Vietnam.
Currently, the company is operating with the most modern tobacco fiber processing line with a capacity of 2,500 kg/hour. It owns 39 types of equipment for rolling, bagging, taping, monitoring product quality, especially a system which can roll 6,000 cigarettes/minuteand pack 250 bags/minute.
Cam Le Tobacco Factory, the predecessor of Thanh Hoa Tobacco Company Limited, was established on June 12, 1966 in Thanh Hoa province. At that time, the factory of the enterprise was built in a field style, with only 2 winding machines and 1 old slicer ceded by Thang Long Tobacco Factory.
In 1996, the company experienced a historic turning point when it joined Vietnam National Tobacco Corporation.
In 2020, despite many difficulties and challenges, especially the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, Thanh Hoa Tobacco Company Limited still successfully completed its tasks, targets, production and business plans with a revenue of 702 billion VND, contributing more than 467 billion VND to the State budget. Its output was 203.3 million cigarette packs, export turnover was 13 million USD, and profit before tax was 6.2 billion VND.
