According to statistics from 28 banks that have published their financial statements for 2022, there are 10 banks with a NPL coverage ratio of over 100%. This shows that many banks have actively increased their defense against bad debts that have arisen.
Specifically, Vietcombank is currently the bank with the highest NPL coverage ratio in the whole system with 317%, decreasing more than 100 percentage points compared to the peak at the end of 2021. Thus, for every VND of bad debt, Vietcombank has set aside VND 3.17 for provision.
At MB, the NPL coverage ratio reached 238%, down 30 percentage points compared to last year. This is the second highest NPL coverage ratio in the system and is only behind Vietcombank.
Following MB is the giant BIDV with a NPL coverage ratio of 217%. As of December 31, 2022, the bad debt ratio according to Circular 11/2021/TT-NHNN of the bank was controlled at 0.9%.
At Bac A Bank, although the provision buffer decreased slightly in the past year, the bank's bad debt decreased by 24%, thereby raising the NPL coverage ratio from 162% to 204%.
In addition to the above banks, the top 10 banks with the highest NPL coverage ratio in 2022 also include VietinBank, ACB, LienVietPostBank, TPBank, Sacombank and Techcombank.
