Cabinet members need to show a greater resolve in the management work so as to cope with existing socio-economic difficulties, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said at the cabinet’s April meeting in Hanoi on May 4.
At the first regular gathering of the Government with 21 newly elected members, Phuc pointed to such problems as high bad debts, seawater intrusion in the southwestern region and drought in the Central Highlands.
The situation gets worse as inflation has shown signs of increase meanwhile economic growth in the first quarter of this year has dropped in comparison with the corresponding time last year, the cabinet leader said.
He noted that management work has not observed the principles of the market economy, resulting in low competitiveness.
Businesses have had fewer chances to benefit from a favorable climate, he said, adding that waste and corruption have still existed in state agencies.
The Prime Minister called for more efforts to build a pure Government staying away from corruption, waste and other bad deeds, suggesting himself and other members set bright examples in this regard.
He requested agencies and authorities at all levels to better care for people’s material and spiritual life while taking measures to achieve the growth target of 6.7 percent, curb inflation and support inhabitants in areas prone to natural disasters.
The Government’s objective is to facilitate the operation of businesses, he stressed, adding that 2016 has been selected as the national year of startups, especially young entrepreneurs.
Other crucial tasks are to build institutions and maintain administrative disciplines while promoting democracy among people, particularly disadvantaged groups.
To achieve more remarkable successes, socio-economic management should be based on the people, Phuc said.- (VNA/VLLF)
