In recent years, major domestic companies in Vietnam have contributed significantly the national economic development.

List major companies in Vietnam

Vietnam is developing country with deep and wide international economic integration. Besides large foreign invested companies, the number of domestic corporations in this country has also increased rapidly. It can be said that these companies are an important lever that can boost Vietnam's economy to quickly reach the regional as well as global level. 

TOP 10

1. Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation (Petro Vietnam)

Petro Vietnam is not only the largest oil and gas group in Vietnam but also one of the key drivers of Vietnam’s economy. 

The group has established a complete and synchronous oil and gas industry system from oil and gas exploration and exploitation to gas - electricity - oil and gas processing and service, making an important contribution to ensuring the country's energy security.

As a pioneer in international cooperation, integration and investment, the group is implementing oil and gas activities in 14 countries around the world.

In 2019, the group recorded a revenue of 29.8 billion USD, which is the largest among Vietnamese companies.

The financial statements for 2020 of some subsidiaries of Petro Vietnam are being adjusted and the group is currently waiting for guidance from the State on the handover from SBIC. However, VietnamCredit estimates that in 2020, the group’s revenue may reach nearly 25 billion USD.

2. Vietnam Electricity Corporation - EVN

EVN is among the largest and most influential companies in Vietnam. It is also a monopoly in the field of electricity in Vietnam. 

EVN specializes in distribution, transmission, production and export of electricity. So far, the company has built a national electricity network to every household in the country. The company has also exported electricity to neighboring countries including Laos and China.

3. Military Industry and Telecoms Group - Viettel

Military Industry and Telecoms Group is an enterprise with 100% state capital. It is operating directly under the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam. Since its establishment, Viettel has always made great efforts in providing telecommunications platforms, and many utility applications and services for society. 

Viettel is currently  the largest telecommunications service provider in Vietnam. The company is also investing, operating and doing business in 13 countries stretching from Asia, Africa to America, with a market size of 270 million people, about 3 times as much as the population of Vietnam.

Besides telecommunications, Viettel also participates in high-tech manufacturing research and production, and a number of other fields such as postal, construction and installation, trade and import-export, IDC.

4. Vietnam National Coal & Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited – Vinacomin

Vietnam National Coal & Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited was established in 1994 under the Decision of the Prime Minister. Vinacomin's head office is located in Hanoi. The corporation also has production control centers located in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh and in other provinces, and representative offices at home and abroad.

As the leader of the mining industry in Vietnam, Vinacomin always operates with the goal of becoming a strong state economic group, improving efficiency and competitiveness in the market. At the same time, in addition to increasing production, the company also focuses on protecting the ecological environment, ensuring national energy security.

5. Vingroup Joint Stock Company

With real estate projects speading from North to South, Vingroup is probably the most well-known company in Vietnam.

Not only is Vingroup among the largest comapnies in Vietnam, but it also represents Vietnam in the list of top public companies with billions of dollars in revenue in the Asia-Pacific region. Vingroup is operating in the following fields: real estate (Vinhomes), tourism & entertainment (Vinpearl), retail (Vinmart). Besides, technology (Vsmart), industry (VinFast), health (Vinmec), education (Vinschool) and agriculture (VinEco) are also among Vingroup’s business activities.

6. Mobile World Joint Stock Company

Although it cannot be compared with the above corporations, Mobile World Joint Stock Company has also made significant contribution to Vietnam’s economy. It is the largest retailer in Vietnam.

The company manages and operates the retail chain stores The Gioi Di Dong, Dien May Xanh, Bach Hoa Xanh, Dien Thoai Sieu Re with a network of more than 4,000 stores nationwide. The chain The Gioi Di Dong, established in 2004, is the number 1 mobile device retail chain in Vietnam with more than 1,000 stores. Dien May Xanh was established at the end of 2010, is a retail chain of consumer electronic products (electronics, refrigeration and home appliances) with the number 1 market share in Vietnam. Bach Hoa Xanh, which was put into trial at the end of 2015, is a chain of stores specializing in retailing fresh food (meat and fish, vegetables, fruits, etc.) and necessities with more than 1,000 stores. In August 2019, MWG opened Dien Thoai Sieu Re chain stores specializing in providing consumers with mid-range and low-priced phones.

7. DOJI Gold & Gems Group

DOJI Gold & Gems Group was formerly known as TTD Trading and Technology Development Company, established on July 28, 1994. In 2007, DOJI transformed into a Joint Stock Company and marked its strong participation in the domestic jewelry market with the opening of Ruby Plaza in Hanoi.

In 2009, DOJI carried out restructuring and officially became DOJI Gold & Gems Group, operating under the model of a parent-subsidiary company.

The group has paid more attention to potential projects, invested in tourism, became a strategic shareholder of Artex Saigon Company, entered the financial-banking field and successfully restructured TPBank Commercial.

DOJI has 12 subsidiary companies, 5 affiliates, 50 branches, nearly 200 centers and stores spreading across the country with more than 400 agents.

8. Hoa Phat Group

Initially, Hoa Phat Group was a company specializing in trading construction machines established in 1992. So far, the group has become the leading industrial production company in Vietnam. 

Hoa Phat manufactures and trades in many industrial products including furniture, steel pipes, construction steel, refrigeration, real estate and even agriculture. Particularly in the field of steel production and construction steel pipes in Vietnam, Hoa Phat is second to none.

In the field of furniture, Hoa Phat also quickly occupied the leading market share. For many years of operation, Hoa Phat has always maintained its position in the top valuable brands in Vietnam.

Hoa Phat Group is made up of 11 member companies with more than 11,000 officers and employees. Besides, Hoa Phat has gradually entered the international market and set up an office in Singapore.

9. Masan Group

Masan Group specializes in the consumer goods industry. As one of the largest enterprises in the private sector in Vietnam, Masan is a household name to Vietnamese with products including soy sauce, instant noodles, instant coffee, cereals, fish sauce, etc. 

Masan's products are also exported to foreign markets such as Japan, USA, France, Canada, Cambodia, etc. Moreover, Masan has also invested in many other fields such as finance - banking, resources and food.

At the end of fiscal year 2020, Masan Group achieved a revenue of 3.3 billion USD, up 106.7 percent compared to that in 2019.

10. FPT Group

FPT is a major company in Vietnam with the main business activity of providing services related to information technology. Initially, FPT was a state-owned enterprise operating in the field of food import and export, and food processing.

Currently, FPT has 8 member companies operating in the fields of telecommunications, software, education, e-commerce, distribution, retail and investment.

In 2020, FPT witnessed an increase of 7.6% and 12.8% in revenue and profit, respectively, over 2019.
