Experts emphasized that point at the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement for the period 2022-2025 between VTC and Microsoft in the field of e-sports. The cooperation aims to promote the application of technology to expand products, enhance players' experience, promote creativity, and build the Innovation Center of Vietnam Technology and Game Startup to develop and elevate the Vietnamese game market.
Video games are an area of great attraction. According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao, General Director of VTC, the world currently has about 3 billion people playing games. By 2030, this number is expected to increase to 4.5 billion people. Gaming is an industry that is worth nearly 200 billion USD with double-digit year-over-year growth.
In Southeast Asia, Vietnam is considered a game powerhouse of the region. According to statistics, Vietnam currently ranks 7th in the world and 2nd in Southeast Asia in terms of the number of game downloads. In addition, Vietnam is also ranked 3rd in the top 10 game application manufacturers in the region. For every 25 games downloaded, there is one produced in a Vietnamese studio.
Thus, when the population and the number of game downloads in Vietnam are taken into consideration, it can be seen that the average number of people playing games in Vietnam is quite large. Vietnam has internal resources and potential to be explored in the game field.

Assessing the potential of the Vietnamese game market, Ms. Nguyen Quynh Tram, General Director of Microsoft Vietnam, said that the Vietnamese game market has a good force of programmers, engineers, and game creators. Vietnam has great opportunities to develop the gaming industry. Now is an important time for Vietnam to promote the sector and open up opportunities for game developers.
In 2021, digital consumers in Vietnam increased by 8 million more. Digital life has become daily, and games are the field that accounts for a large proportion. Within the framework of cooperation, Microsoft and VTC will focus on four main areas, including building an e-sports tournament system; training and improving game development skills; establishing a hybrid cloud platform for VTC, and supporting VTC to become a game startup hub in Vietnam.
Along with cooperating in training and improving skills for Vietnamese game developers and professional e-sports athletes, Microsoft will also provide game production platforms to VTC so that Vietnam can Create and publish games to the international market.
With the great potential of the game market, experts believe that this cooperation will promote the development of e-sports in Vietnam and the region, and gradually move on to the world. That is also the time to open up opportunities for Vietnamese game studios to develop and go global to exploit the 200 billion USD market.
VTC representative shared that this is when it will have to transform itself, moving from an issuer to a production rate of at least 50%. The expansion of cooperation will help VTC learn and update new technologies of the world to go to the market and produce to expand in the global market.
