By the end of the second quarter of 2023, the total assets of 29 banks that have published financial statements reached nearly VND 15.3 million billion, up 3.6% compared to the end of last year. In the past 6 months, 24 banks recorded growth in total assets. Some banks including MB, VPBank, HDBank, VIB, MSB, Nam A Bank and ABBank achieved double-digit asset growth.
However, there are also 6 banks with reduced assets, namely Vietcombank, VietABank, NCB, PG Bank and Saigonbank. Among these, Vietcombank recorded the deepest decline, losing nearly VND 110,000 billion or 6% of total assets in the first 6 months of the year. Vietcombank has lost its third place to VietinBank.
Regarding absolute balance, BIDV continues to be the champion in terms of total assets with more than VND 2.1 million billion. The second place belongs to Agribank with VND 1.9 million billion, up 1.5% compared to the beginning of the year. The 3rd and 4th positions of the remaining two representatives in the Big4 group are VietinBank and Vietcombank, respectively.
In the group of joint stock commercial banks, MB continued to lead in terms of total assets with VND 806,238 billion, up 10.7% compared to the end of last year. The other banks in the top 10 are VPBank, Techcombank, ACB, Sacombank and SHB.
