At the Vietnam Online Marketing Forum 2018, Vietnam E-commerce Association VECOM announced the e-commerce index of 2018, assessing the potential of each locality in this field.

According to the e-commerce index ranking conducted by VECOM, Ho Chi Minh City continues to be the leader with EBI of 82.1, followed by Hanoi. Notably, Haiphong took the lead in the third rankings with the EBI e-commerce index of 54.9 and the highest increase compared to 2017 among all cities and provinces. Da Nang has a strong move in B2C transactions thanks to the high contribution of tourism and services.
 
Although in 2017, there have been many activities from state management agencies, organizations and enterprises to narrow the gap in the level of e-commerce development between the two major economic centers with other localities.
