According to the latest report of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first four months of 2018, fruit and vegetable export turnover reached $1.32 billion, up nearly 30% y-o-y. This is also the first time that export turnover of vegetables has surpassed that of crude oil. According to experts, in order to obtain high growth rate of fruit and vegetable export turnover, Vietnam has taken its existing advantages and applied green production process to meet strict quality demands from Importers.

Vegetables and fruits of Vietnam are exported to 60 countries and territories, including 10 major markets such as China, Japan, the United States, South Korea ... China is the biggest import market of Vietnam vegetables & fruits, accounting for more than 70% of vegetables and fruits export turnover. Following is the USA. However, its import value is only about 3% of Vietnam vegetables and fruits export turnover. Notably, countries that are entitled with agricultural strengths like Thailand and Indonesia also imported Vietnam vegetables and fruits.

However, according to Mr Hoang Trong Thuy, an agricultural expert, Vietnam has to diversify its export markets so as to minimize the risk of over-reliance on a specific market (especially China) which causes lower prices. Specifically, the Ministry of Industry and Trade should promote the negotiation to export milk and mango products to the US market, red dragon fruit to Japan, rambutan to Australia.
