Shopee is the largest e-commerce company in Vietnam with nearly 70 million visits per month, followed by thegioididong with more than 30 million visits and tiki with about 22 million visits.

A glance at Vietnam’s e-commerce market

According to the Country Report 2021 released by Vietnam Credit, with the growth rate of 18% and market value of 11.8 billion USD, e-commerce is one of the fastest growing economic sector in Vietnam despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the past 6 years, it has always experienced a growth rate from 23% to 37%. Online shopping expense per person has also increased sharply, from 160 USD in 2015 to 225 USD in 2019. According to the National E-commerce Development Master Plan for the period 2021-2025, revenue of e-commerce will increase by 25% per year and reach 35 billion USD, while average online shopping per peson is forecast to reach 600 USD/year.

A survey conducted by Nielsen shows that the epidemic has boosted the demand for shopping on e-commerce platforms of Vietnamese consumers. There has also been a shift in commodities structure, from non-food items and fashion to necessities and food, especially fast moving consumer goods (FMCG).

Nielsen reported that, since the pandemic broke out in 2020, the demand for shopping through e-commerce platforms has increased sharply. So far, more than 70% of Vietnam's population has access to the internet, 53% of which use e-wallets for online purchases.

It is forecasted that in the coming time, e-commerce will continue to grow strongly due to the increase in demand caused by the epidemic.

Top 5 e-commerce companies in Vietnam

According to data collected by Vietnam Credit from iPrice Group, Shopee is the largest e-commerce platform in Vietnam with nearly 70 million visits per month, followed by thegioididong with more than 30 million visits and tiki with about 22 million visits.

1. Shopee

Shopee is an e-commerce company owned by Singapore-based SEA group. This e-commerce platform is present in 7 countries including Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Brazil, Malaysia and Taiwan.

Shopee Vietnam is popular among many businesses and consumers. Initially, it operated under consumer-to-consumer (C2C), then there was a switch to business-to-consumer (B2C) model.

Thanks to its user-friendly interface as well as effective marketing campaigns, as of February 2021, this e-commerce platform had attracted about 68.5 million visits per month (data from iPrice Group). .

2. Mobile World

This e-commerce platform is under possession of Mobile World Joint Stock Company, established in March 2004.

According to statistics about Vietnam’s retail market in 2020 for the mobile device segment, MWG's market share accounted for about 50%, which makes it the largest enterprise in this field. The company also entered the top 100 largest retailers in Asia - Pacific.

With 31.4 million visits per month, MBW’s e-commerce platform ranks second in the list of top 5 largest e-commerce companies in Vietnam.

3.Tiki

Tiki is one of the most popular e-commerce sites in Vietnam. It was established in March 2010.

This e-commerce company offers TikiNow service, with which customers can receive goods quickly in just 2 hours from the time of order placement. The e-commerce platform of TIKI currently offers over 500,000 products of more than 6,500 prestigious brands to meet the diverse needs of customers.

Although it is the third most visited e-commerce platform in Vietnam, the number of visits to the its website has decreased dramatically. It welcomes nearly 22.2 million visits per month (compared to more than 30 million visits in 2019), ranking 4th in app downloads on iOS and Android.

4. Lazada

Lazada Vietnam was established in March 2012 as an e-commerce trading platform, providing products in many different categories such as furniture, phones and tablets, fashion and accessories, health care products, beauty, toys and sporting goods. Lazada Vietnam is a subsidiary of Lazada Group owned by Alibaba - a multinational e-commerce group and currently has branches in Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.

As one of the most chosen e-commerce platforms in Vietnam, second only to Shopee, Tiki amd MBW, the number of visits to Lazada's website reaches 20.8 million visits per month.

5. Sendo

Sendo is an online e-commerce platform introduced to Vietnam market in September 2012. This e-commerce company is under the management of FPT Online Services Joint Stock Company - FPT Online. Currently, Sendo has a wide dilivery system throughout the provinces and cities across Vietnam.
