Vietnam’s exports of paper and paper products in October 2022 reached about 140 million USD, down 0.4% over September and 8.7% over October 2021.
In the first 10 months of 2022, Vietnam’s paper and paper products exports were 1.58 billion USD, up 15% over the same period in 2021.
Data from the General Department of Customs showed that in the first 9 months of 2022, Vietnam’s exports of paper and paper products reached 1.44 billion USD, which increased by 18% over the same period in 2021.
In September 2022, paper and paper products exports were 140.5 million USD, down 19.4% over August 2022 and 1.8% over September 2021.
Vietnam’s top 2 paper exporting markets in the first 9 months of 2022 were the US and China. Exports to these markets accounted for 39.7% of the total export turnover.
Vietnam’s paper exports to the US increased by 20.1% over the same period in 2021. Exports to China decreased by 15.4%.
In the first 9 months of 2022, the export of paper and paper products to several markets increased compared to the same period in 2021, such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, etc. On the contrary, exports to some markets decreased, such as Malaysia, Korea, Hong Kong, and Germany.
In September 2022, the export of paper and paper products to a few markets increased sharply, such as Singapore up 117%, the Philippines up 129.5%, and the UK up 117.4% over the same period in 2021.
In October 2022, Vietnam’s paper imports were estimated at 160 thousand tons, equivalent to a turnover of 165 million USD, up 6.6% in volume and 6.1% in turnover over September. Compared to October 2021, it increased by 14.9% in volume and 21% in turnover.
In the first 10 months of 2022, paper imported into Vietnam reached 1.84 million tons, with a turnover of 1.86 billion USD, down 2% in volume and up 6.3% in turnover over the same period in 2021.
According to calculations from the General Department of Customs, in the first nine months of 2022, imports of paper and paper products into Vietnam reached US$1.69 billion, up 5.1% over the same period in 2021.
Import of paper into Vietnam in September 2022 reached 150 million tons, and turnover was 155.5 million USD, down 16.5% in volume and 16.4% in turnover compared to August 2022; up 10.5% in volume and 12.9% in turnover compared to September 2021.
In the first 9 months of 2022, Vietnam imported paper of all kinds mainly from the markets of China, Japan, Indonesia, and South Korea, accounting for 68.2% of the total import volume. Imports of paper of all kinds from the above markets increased over the same period in 2021, especially imports from Indonesia decreased by 18% in volume and 9.3% in turnover compared to the same period in 2021.
Notably, paper imports from Malaysia increased sharply in the first 9 months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, up 157.8% in volume and 135.5% in turnover, reaching 106.2 thousand tons, with a turnover of 87.6 million USD.

Topping the list of top paper importers in Vietnam in the first 9 months of 2022 is CP Paper Corporation, with a turnover of 95,810 thousand USD. Followed in second and third places are Tetra Pak Binh Duong Joint Stock Company and Tetra Pak Vietnam Joint Stock Company, with turnovers of 58,802 thousand USD and 42,602 thousand USD, respectively.
An Viet Phat Energy Company Limited and Mekong Paper Trading Production Joint Stock Company claimed the fourth and fifth ranks with turnovers of 33,148 thousand USD and 26,234 thousand USD, respectively.
