Vietnam Construction Glass Industry Report 2010
Monday 20, 07 2020
Glass is one of the important materials in architecture, construction and modern decor. Along with the development process of the country in general and the construction sector in particular, the demand for construction glass has been experiencing rapid growth.
Vietnam has an abundance of labor force and natural white sand resources, and plenty of cheap minerals used to produce glass. This is the basis for the development of construction glass industry which, in long term, helps exploit inner potential and at the same time, avoid depending on imports.
The government having a long term policy in developing instruction glass industry as well as creating favourable conditions for investment in manufacturing in genral and in glass sector in particular are crucial supports for the sector’s development.
Currently, it is believed that the main drawbacks to domestic glass industry are technology and costs. Most of the glass enterprises are applying outdated technology and there are not many large-scale businesses with modern technology.
The impacts of several factors including market situation, economic crisis, massive imports, commercial frauds, etc … have recently caused difficulties and bankruptcies to domestic manufacturers. The amount of imported glass has increased in recent years, most of which is cheap Chinese glass produced with outdated technology.
In general, in near future, Vietnam’s glass industry will face difficulties. In far future when the economy recovers, the sector will develop rapidly and sustainably.
