Exports outlook

It is forecast that Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover in the last months of 2022 will increase due to the recovery of many markets and cyclical factors. Vietnamese durian officially licensed by China is opening up better growth opportunities for the country's fruit and vegetable industry. Besides durian, fruits such as dragon fruit, mango, pomelo, banana, etc., are expected to be imported more by China because many of China's farming areas are affected by drought.

In addition, Vietnamese enterprises have gradually adapted to the methodical production process and are eligible for official export. Despite being heavily impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and political fluctuations, the export turnover of vegetables and fruits to the European market in October 2022 still achieved positive results.

Before the EVFTA took effect, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports to the EU enjoyed preferential rates under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). From August 1, 2020, about 94% of the total 547 tax lines for fresh and processed vegetables and fruits have been reduced by the EU to 0%. Many fruit and vegetable products enjoying tax reduction are Vietnam's export strengths. That gives Vietnam's fruit and vegetable products a competitive advantage over some Asian countries.
