Vietnam’s import-export turnover reached over 306 billion USD

Vietnam’s import-export turnover in the first 5 months of 2022 reached over 306 billion USD, with the group of FDI companies accounting for the largest percentage of total turnover.

In the first 5 months of 2022, Vietnam’s export turnover was 153.3 billion USD, and import turnover was 152.86 billion USD. There was a trade surplus of 446 million USD.

According to the latest preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, in the latter half of May 2022 (from May 16 to May 31), the total import and export value of Vietnam's goods reached 35.17 billion USD, an increase of 24.2% compared to the implementation results in the first half of May 2022.

The results achieved in the second half of May 2022 have boosted Vietnam's total import and export turnover in the first 5 months of 2022 to 306.16 billion USD, up 16% compared to the previous year.

The total import-export value of foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises in Vietnam reached 211.43 billion USD, up 15.2%; the import-export value of domestic enterprises was 94.73 billion USD, up 17.7% over the same period in 2021.

In the second half of May 2022, Vietnam’s trade balance had a surplus of 862 million USD. In the first 5 months of 2022, the trade balance had a surplus of 446 million USD.

Exports

Specifically, in terms of exports, in the 2nd period of May 2022, it reached 18.02 billion USD, up 40.9% compared to the first half of May 2022.

Some commodity groups with export value increased over the same period, including computers, electronic products, and components with an increase of USD 1.23 billion; machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts increased by 628 million USD; textiles and garments increased by USD 493 million; phones and components increased by 425 million USD; footwear of all kinds increased by 384 million USD; etc.

Thus, in the first 5 months of 2022, Vietnam's total export value reached 153.3 billion USD, up 16.7% over the same period in 2021.

The statistics of the General Department of Customs also show that the export value of goods of FDI enterprises in Vietnam in the second period of May 2022 reached nearly 13.2 billion USD, an increase of 42.7% compared to the first period of the month, thereby bringing the total export turnover from the beginning of 2022 to the end of May 2022 of this group of enterprises to 112 billion USD, an increase of 15% over the same period in 2021, accounting for 73.1% of the total export value of Vietnam.

Imports

The value of Vietnam's imported goods in the 2nd period of May 2022 reached 17.16 billion USD, up 10.5% compared to the results. results in the first half of May 2022.

Some groups of goods with an increase in import value compared to the first period of May 2022 were computers, electronic products, and components with an increase of 349 million USD; machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts increased by 267 million USD; other common metals increased by 167 million USD; chemicals increased by 134 million USD; etc.

Thus, in the first 5 months of 2022, the total import value of the whole country reached 152.86 billion USD, up 15.3% over the same period in 2021.

Import value of goods of FDI enterprises in this period reached 10.7 billion USD, up 9.7% compared to the first period of May 2022.

In the first five months of 2022, the total import value of this group of enterprises reached 99.4 billion USD, up 15.5% (equivalent to an increase of 13.35 billion USD) over the same period last year, accounting for 65% of the total import value of the country.
