According to statistics from 28 banks that have published their financial statements for the fourth quarter of 2023, the total operating income of banks in 2023 has increased slightly compared to the previous year, up 4.3%.
The three giants including BIDV, VietinBank, Vietcombank are respectively the three leading banks in terms of total operating income (TOI). BIDV's income reached more than 73,000 billion VND, an increase of 5.1% compared to the previous year; TOI of VietinBank increased by 10.2% while Vietcombank's TOI decreased slightly by 0.5% to 67,724 billion VND.
The driving force for BIDV's income growth comes from non-credit segments such as foreign exchange trading (net profit increased by 50%), and investment securities (11 times higher than the previous year). At Vietcombank, these segments all recorded a decline.
Among joint stock banks, VPBank is the bank with the highest total income of nearly 50,000 billion VND, although it decreased by nearly 14% compared to the previous year. MB, Techcombank, ACB, HDBank, Sacombank, VIB are the banks ranked next in terms of TOI.
Among the 28 banks surveyed, 9 banks recorded a decrease in TOI compared to the previous year. The sharpest decrease was experienced by National Bank (NCB), followed by VPBank, Eximbank, BVBank, PG Bank, etc.
On the contrary, BaoVietBank is the bank with the strongest TOI increase, up more than 41% compared to the previous year, reaching 1,968 billion VND. Some banks with double-digit TOI increases include Nam A Bank, VietABank, VIB, HDBank, ACB, MSB, etc.
